WhatsApp is getting a much-requested feature. The messaging service is currently rolling out a feature that allows users to edit their sent WhatsApp messages.
Customize WhatsApp afterwards
WhatsApp just announced the news in a blog post. In this, the messaging service writes that users can change a message within 15 minutes after it has been sent. After that it is no longer possible to edit the message.

WhatsApp is rolling out the message editing feature globally today. The company says the feature will be “available to everyone in the coming weeks.” So you may not have the option yet.
Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of WhatsApp. This way you can be sure that you have the feature when it is available for your account. To do this, open the App Store app and tap your profile icon in the top right corner. Scroll down and next to WhatsApp, tap Update.

Edit WhatsApp message
The function for editing a WhatsApp message is being rolled out carefully, so there is a chance that it will not work yet. If the feature is already available, here’s how to edit a post:
- Press and hold a sent message (from less than 15 minutes ago).
- Tap “Edit” to edit the message.
Under edited posts, it says “Edited,” with the time the edit was made. It is not possible to see the edit history, as you can in Facebook posts, for example. The 15 minute time limit is identical to the limit Apple imposed on editing iMessages. In iMessage, however, you can edit a message up to five times, in WhatsApp there seems to be no limit for this.
