Tottenham Hotspur contacted Van der Vaart about Feyenoord coach Arne Slot

Rafael van der Vaart has been asked by Tottenham Hotspur for his opinion on Arne Slot. The former midfielder, who played for the club between 2010 and 2012, was wildly enthusiastic about Feyenoord’s successful coach.

“I do know that Tottenham really wants him,” said Van der Vaart at Studio Voetbal on Sunday evening. When asked, he agreed that he has been in contact with Tottenham about Slot. “Yes, but that was a long time ago. Or yes, a month ago. They asked what I thought of him,” said Van der Vaart. “You know what I think of him. He squeezed out the maximum, Feyenoord is so stable. Even today, after they found out and partied all week.”

Van der Vaart admitted that he gave ‘green light’ to The Spurs regarding Slot. “Very green light. Tottenham is a club where I spent two years and I have a good relationship with them. They just lack a good coach and a coach who plays the fun football that Tottenham has always stood for.”

On Sunday morning, general manager Dennis te Kloese said that Tottenham has not yet officially reported for Slot, although according to Fabrizio Romano he is the most important candidate. “I was annoyed when I watched Good Morning Eredivisie this morning. Te Kloese was asked the same question 28 times, while I think it is very clear,” said Van der Vaart. “In football you cannot say that you will definitely stay, especially if you have done so well as Slot. Then it is very simple: he stays, but if a club comes along that pays what Feyenoord wants, then he is away.”
