I always love the taste of sweet soy sauce. And sometimes you have to find what you can use it for. Traditionally you often find the sweet soy sauce over fried rice or the salty soy sauce with sushi. This dish also revolves around the sweet soy sauce, which I combine with my homemade meatballs. I made it into a rice meal. Below you will find my complete dish and I will tell you how I make it. The result? A delicious meal for dinner!
Ketjap is actually just a soy sauce. But it mainly distinguishes itself because it is somewhat thicker and sweeter than soy sauce. The fact that sweet soy sauce is sweeter is because it is sweetened with palm sugar. The amount can vary considerably per sweet soy sauce. Nowadays you also have sweet soy sauce where part of the sugar has been replaced by stevia.
If at least 80% of your diet is healthy and you eat few snacks and sweets, then you can enjoy a tasty sweet soy sauce. I live a very healthy life, but I do eat some foods (about which discussions could arise). We are not extreme in food choices here, if the basic (and preferably a bit more), but healthy and sustainable as much as possible! The latter is also important to me.
For the rice I use brown rice. This rice is healthier. because, among other things, it contains more fiber. Also read our article: Which rice is healthy?
How do you make this rice meal with meatballs in sweet soy sauce?
Ingredients for 4 people:
- 300 grams organic minced beef (or vegetarian minced meat)
- 1 tbsp. Vadouvan seasoning (or minced meat seasoning)
- 1 egg
- 2 sliced onions
- 2 cloves of crushed garlic
- 8 tbsp. sweet soy sauce
- 250 ml. chicken bouillon
- Pinch ginger pepper
- 400 gr. brown rice
- 1 pointed cabbage, sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
Method of preparation
Mix the Vaduvan or minced meat seasoning, the minced beef and the egg together and roll into small meatballs. You can also add a few tablespoons of breadcrumbs if you don’t have a problem with gluten.
Put the water on for the rice. When it boils, you can add the brown rice.
Fruit the onion and garlic in a snack pan with a tablespoon of oil. After 2 minutes, add the meatballs over medium heat. Turn the balls regularly until they are colored on all sides. Then you can add the sweet soy sauce and chicken stock. Turn the heat down.
Keep an eye on the rice. When it is cooked, you can drain it and let it stand for a while.
Stir-fry the pointed cabbage in a wok with about two tablespoons of oil. Season the pointed cabbage with the ginger powder, salt and pepper.
Make up the plates by first putting the rice on it and then the meatballs and pointed cabbage.
Enjoy your meal!
