Nurse Tommie Niessen: “It’s time for change! Only together can we improve healthcare!”

“It’s time to listen to healthcare workers.” Independent nurse, author and speaker Tommie Niessen uses his fame to give healthcare workers a voice. On Friday 12 May “Day of Care” he launches Tommie | The Care Community with the Tommie app, the first social media app especially for healthcare workers.

Tommy | The Healthcare Community

Tommy | The Care Community brings the Care closer together and is a free online social media platform. The idea behind it is to create a place where healthcare workers, people who want to work in healthcare, healthcare organisations, trade unions, trade associations and training institutes can unite to connect, collaborate, innovate and learn from each other.

To facilitate this, Niessen has developed the Tommy app (for Apple and Android), the social media app for healthcare where healthcare employees and people who want to work in healthcare can meet, inspire, inform and support each other, but also healthcare organizations, trade unions, industry associations and training institutes come together. A safe and interactive environment. The free app provides access to De Zorg Community, with the aim of becoming the largest healthcare community in the Netherlands with passionate healthcare providers who are committed to improving and strengthening our healthcare.

With the Tommie app and De Zorg Community, Niessen and his team want to bring the healthcare sector back together and unite. “It’s time for us to do it ourselves! We strive for an industry where healthcare providers are seen as the most important building blocks of healthcare and where their experience and expertise are fully utilized. It is important that all healthcare employees, healthcare organizations, trade unions and trade associations in the Netherlands work together and healthcare becomes workable again! With more job satisfaction, appreciation and more colleagues. By uniting we form a unity, so that something will really change now to bring about positive change within the healthcare sector. Strong together for better care!”

Tommie Niessen has been working in healthcare as a nurse for more than 10 years and has been working as a self-employed person in healthcare for several years now. He is also a speaker and author, who writes about the experiences he gains during his work as a nurse. Niessen is a man with a mission: to put healthcare on the map in a positive and, above all, realistic way. Tommie gained national fame with his book ‘Tommie in care’, which was released in 2018. In recent years, in addition to his work in healthcare and giving lectures and workshops, he has been particularly active on various social media channels where he has more than 200,000 followers. Tommie now wants to use his fame and use it to give healthcare workers a national voice. Tommy: “ It is essential to retain the current care workers in the care sector and to stimulate the influx of new care workers so that we can also guarantee high-quality care for all residents of the Netherlands in the coming decades. The healthcare providers have followed me online for years so that I could make my voice heard, now it is time for me to help the healthcare providers to make their voices heard with my familiarity”.

I have specialized in interactive news for healthcare providers, so that healthcare providers are informed every day about the news that may be relevant to them. Both lay news and news specifically for healthcare providers and prescribers. Social Media, Womens Health, Patient advocacy, patient empowerment, personalized medicine & Care 2.0 and the social domain are spearheads for me to pay extra attention to.

I studied physiotherapy and Health Care business administration. I am also a registered independent client support worker and informal care broker. I have a lot of experience in various positions in healthcare, the social domain and the medical, pharmaceutical industry, nationally and internationally. And have broad medical knowledge of most healthcare specialties. And of the care laws from which the care is regulated and financed. Every year I attend most of the leading medical conferences in Europe and America to keep my knowledge up-to-date and to keep up with the latest developments and innovations. Currently I am doing a Masters in Applied Psychology.
