New AMD Ryzen 7000 series with six, eight and twelve cores in the test

In 2022, AMD released the Ryzen 7000X processors. These support the new AM5 platform with DDR5 RAM and PCI Express 5.0. The desktop CPUs perform better than their predecessors, but consume more energy. At the beginning of this year, AMD expanded the range with cheaper and more economical variants.

For example, AMD released the following new CPUs:

These new processors have a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 65 watts and six, eight and twelve cores respectively. The Ryzen 7000 CPUs without X cost 250, 360 and 480 euros respectively, about 20 euros cheaper than the already available X variants with 105 and 170 watt TDP.

AMD supplies suitable coolers with the 65-watt processors, including the Wraith Prism with RGB LED lighting for the Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 9 7900 and the Wraith Stealth for the Ryzen 5 7600.

The new Ryzen 7000 clocks slower than the Ryzen 7000X variants due to its lower thermal budget of up to 88 watts. The guaranteed nominal clock speed is between 3.7 and 3.8 GHz, depending on the CPU. However, the maximum turbo clock rate has only been reduced by 100 or 200 MHz.

For example, the Ryzen 9 7900 can reach up to 5.4 GHz, but the new energy-efficient variants perform less. The new processors are a good choice for users looking for a more efficient option due to the 65-watt TDP.
