In San Salvador, El Salvador’s capital, nine people have been killed in a stampede by supporters trying to enter the Cuscatlan football stadium. This is reported by the police.
Several people were also injured, the national police said on Twitter. At least two people who were taken to hospital are in critical condition.
According to the first information, the stampede was caused by supporters who wanted to enter the stadium for the football match between the local team Alianza and CD FAS. The game was interrupted to evacuate football fans.
Interior Minister Juan Carlos Bidegain said Civil Protection teams are on site to assist those present. Hundreds of military and police officers were also sent to the stadium. (Belgium)
