Heracles Almelo was crowned champion of the Kitchen Champion Division on Friday evening. The team of trainer John Lammers won 2-0 against Jong Ajax in their own stadium and kept competitor PEC Zwolle behind. The number two won a visit to Helmond Sport 2-3.
As is known, Heracles and PEC were already certain of promotion to the Eredivisie, but still had to decide among themselves who would take the title. The team from Almelo already knew that it started the last round with a lead, as the goal difference was better. Nevertheless, Lammers’ men went looking for a quick goal, which eventually came in the 24th minute. Samuel Armenteros helped his team to the 1-0 lead. That immediately turned out to be the rest position.

In the second half, the spectacle turned out to be long, but the liberating 2-0 still fell. Fifteen minutes before the end, Lucas Schoofs caused a party in Almelo. When celebrating those goals, the cups of beer flew into the air and so the game was temporarily stopped. After a cooling-off period, Heracles’ victory was no longer in danger and the party in Almelo could start a little later than planned. Heracles also received a little help from Helmond.
Helmond Sports – PEC Zwolle 2-3
PEC knew it had to score a lot in North Brabant and took the lead after seventeen minutes via Lennart Thy. Then it was Martijn Kaars, who stole the show on behalf of Helmond Sport. The striker turned the deficit with two goals into a 2-1 lead. After tea, PEC fought back into the game through Thy and struck again deep in injury time. Sven Zitman helped PEC to victory, although that was not enough for the championship.
