Geoghegan Hart breaks hip in Giro crash: ‘I’m devastated’

After one of the toughest stages of the round so far, Tao Geoghegan Hart emerged as one of the top favourites. However, fate struck in the eleventh stage, because the Brit crashed in a slippery descent together with teammates Geraint Thomas and Pavel Sivakov. Hart was in the worst shape and was taken away in an ambulance.

Koen Bouwman asked his colleague if he could help him, but Hart’s response was clear: ‘He said: I probably broke my leg. It’s over for me.’ After the examinations in the hospital in Genoa, it was hard for the INEOS Grenadiers climber: Geoghegan Hart has a broken hip.

Geoghegan Hart said from the hospital that he was very disappointed. “I am devastated that the Giro ended this way for me. Thanks everyone for the messages and support. I was so excited to continue this race and loved every minute of it. Arrivederci Giro d’Italia.”
