FC Eindhoven surprises in play-offs

FC Eindhoven has caused a surprise in the play-offs for promotion and relegation. On Monday evening, the men of trainer Rob Penders won 1-0 against Almere City FC, which was the big favorite in the diptych. Dyon Dorenbosch scored the only goal of the game in the Jan Louwers Stadium.

FC Eindhoven beats Almere City FC 1-0

Almere City traveled to Eindhoven with a good feeling, with only one loss in the last ten games. The guests had a large percentage of possession on Monday evening, but had all the trouble in the world to convert that field dominance into opportunities. It was a somewhat bloodless duel, which was startled by the failure of goalkeeper Nigel Betrams.

Just after the break, the goalie was unable to continue after a hard collision, most likely resulting in a broken jaw. Jort Borgmans came within the lines for him and had to act immediately. Pascu had a great chance, but the substitute keeper was paying attention and made a good save.

Then the ball came in on the other side of the field. Fifteen minutes before the end, Evan Rottier received a through ball, after which he gave a bow ball to Dorenbosch. He did not let himself be told that twice and outwitted Nordin Bakker.

The Grand final

The return in Almere will follow this Friday evening. The winner of the diptych then plays against VVV-Venlo or Willem II. If that double confrontation is won, FC Emmen, NAC or MVV will be the opponent in the final.

Scoring progression: 1-0 (76′) D. Dorenbosch
