Unsolved Mysteries has been around since the 1980s. Then the series several times ensured that there was an answer to unsolved cases. Netflix recently picked up the program again and now the reboot of the series has solved a case for the first time.
Kayla Unbehaun, who was kidnapped in 2017, has been found. When she was 9, Kayla was kidnapped by her own mother. But now the mother and daughter have been found and Netflix is partly responsible for that.
Kayla Unbehaun
Kayla Unbehaun’s story was covered in the latest episode of ‘Volume 3’ of Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix, so the 16th season of the series in total. In the episode dedicated to children kidnapped by one of their parents, we learned that Kayla Unbehaun was kidnapped by her mother Heather Unbehaun on July 4, 2017, when she was 9 years old. Heather had visitation rights, but custody belonged to Kayla’s father Ryan Iskerka. Normally Heather would take Kayla back to her father the next day. But the two never arrived.
In the episode of Unsolved Mysteries was shown a picture of what Kayla would look like now, six years later. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) recently published an updated version. A shop assistant recognized the now 15-year-old Kayla and contacted the police. They found Kayla and her mother in Asheville, North Carolina, about 1,000 miles from Wheaton, Illinois where they were last seen. Heather was immediately arrested, but was already released on bail. But she must appear in court in July.
“I am over the moon that Kayla is home safe. We ask for privacy as we get to know each other better and seize this moment as a new beginning,” said the relieved father. For now, Kayla is still in protective custody. But she will probably be able to move back in with her father soon.
