De Telegraaf: Tensions at PSV due to relations between Van Nistelrooij and both(!) assistants

A few weeks ago, there were already cautious noises about tensions in Ruud van Nistelrooij’s staff.

Those first signals no longer seem to be signals but reality. De Telegraaf reports on Friday evening about internal tensions in the bank around Ruud van Nistelrooij. PSV will normally easily qualify for the preliminary round of the famous and popular Champions League, but according to De Telegraaf, repair work will also have to be carried out in the coming weeks and months.

The newspaper points to the mutual relationships in Ruud van Nistelrooij’s staff. It also reminds the PSV citizen somewhat of the period of Mark van Bommel as head coach at PSV, when there were also noises left and right about stiff internal communication and small indoor fires.

“Performances may have improved greatly, but mutual communication, also towards players, remains a source of concern towards the new season,” writes De Telegraaf about the situation surrounding Ruud van Nistelrooij’s staff. The newspaper also points to the head coach himself. PSV has had a great series after Sevilla and that series is certainly worth something if the trainer will be assessed by the club’s management in the coming weeks. ‘At the same time, there are struggles behind the scenes with far-reaching consequences for the coaching staff’, De Telegraaf notes.

The reason for André Ooijer’s departure would be different than previously communicated, it is said in the corridors. The same now seems to apply to Fred Rutten. PSV is in any case heading for second place, but internally there are the necessary pieces to be glued, the newspaper reports.

‘Nevertheless, there are some problems in the background. Serious cracks have arisen in the relationships within the coaching staff during the season, with Van Nistelrooij’s relationship with his assistants Fred Rutten and André Ooijer being described by those involved as below freezing. Mutual communication leaves much to be desired and their role on the training field has been minimized. Sources around Rutten seriously take into account that the experienced assistant, following Ooijer, will call it quits after this season, although the selection would like to see Rutten continue, “said De Telegraaf.
