‘Canon wants to collaborate with smartphone manufacturer’: who will it be?

Reportedly, camera manufacturer Canon wants to collaborate with a manufacturer that releases smartphones. We have already seen this with Hasselblad, Zeiss and Leica, and now Canon would also like to follow suit.

Collaboration between Canon and smartphone manufacturer?

Sources from China report that Canon is looking for a smartphone manufacturer to partner with. This brings the well-known brand of camera and printers in the line of several other companies. For example, Hasselblad already works with Oppo and OnePlus and at Xiaomi you will find the collaboration with Leica. Previously, Huawei already had a collaboration with Leica, but that collaboration ended some time ago. Zeiss also works together with the Finnish HMD Global/Nokia. Sony does not explicitly work with another manufacturer, but of course uses the Alpha functions from its own company. Under the name Alpha, Sony serves photographers and the like.

Canon would now be taking inventory to collaborate with a smartphone manufacturer. It is not clear with which manufacturer Canon would like to collaborate and whether a decision has already been made.

There are several manufacturers that do not yet cooperate with a camera manufacturer. This concerns, for example, Apple, Samsung, Google, Motorola and some Chinese manufacturers such as Honor, Huawei and Realme. The chance that it will be Apple, Samsung or Google seems quite small. We may soon hear from which manufacturer the name ‘Canon’ will be displayed on the back of the phones.
