FC Barcelona recently became champions of LaLiga and the players of the Catalans were celebrated during an open bus tour. The drink flowed freely and that may have played a role in Saturday night’s loss against Real Sociedad. Barça went into the boat with 1-2.
Barcelona 1-2 down after championship party
The Barça players received a guard of honor from their Sociedad opponents, but once the starting whistle sounded, the treatment changed. The guests took the lead very quickly: Alexander Sørloth chipped away at Jules Koundé and enabled Mikel Merino to score.
The former number 9 of FC Groningen (So Sørloth, who left the Euroborg behind in 2017) made it 0-2 halfway through the second half and the Catalans did not get it back.
They did score the connecting goal, Robert Lewandowski made the 1-2, but that goal came too late to make it exciting. Frenkie de Jong participated for 90 minutes on the side of Barcelona, but he could not make the difference either.
Before Sociedad home, the LaLiga champion had not yet lost a game in the Camp Nou stadium, but that changed on Saturday evening.
Scoring progression: 0-1 (5′) M. Merino, 0-2 (71′) A. Sørloth, 1-2 (90′) R. Lewandowski
